What does it mean to be a board-certified orthopedic surgeon?

To become a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, candidates must complete a rigorous educational and training pathway. This includes graduating from an accredited four-year medical school and successfully finishing a five-year orthopedic residency program accredited in the United States or Canada.

After residency, candidates must pass a two-step certification process. The first step is a computer-based Part I examination. Once they pass Part I, they may qualify to take the oral Part II examination, provided they hold an unrestricted medical license, have practiced for at least 17 months in one location, and undergo peer reviews. If deemed eligible by the board, candidates can sit for the oral exam. Successfully passing the Part II exam grants them board certification and recognition as a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

What does fellowship-trained in orthopedic and neurosurgical spine mean?

Dr. Singh completed a one-year combined Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Spine Fellowship at Emory University. This intensive program focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of spine-related conditions. It provides comprehensive training in complex spine procedures, including spinal deformities, trauma, degenerative diseases, and minimally invasive techniques, equipping fellows with a well-rounded skill set to address a wide range of spine disorders.
