Microsurgical cervical laminoplasty is a minimally invasive technique for decompression of cervical nerves. By using operating microscopes in spinal surgery, spine surgeons work through a smaller incision and with greater safety because of the surgeon’s visualization of nerve tissue during spinal surgery. The spine surgeon dissects the lamina and spinous process muscles on the left and right side of the spinal column. The muscles are then removed to gain access to the nerves contained within the spinal canal. The structures that are compressing the nerves are trimmed until the nerves are free from compression.
