The Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS) Annual Forum 2024

Posted on: September 11th, 2024 by Our Team

The Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS) just hosted its annual conference in Las Vegas, September 5th to 7th. Since the early 2000s, this event has been a platform for showcasing innovative techniques and the latest advancements in minimally invasive spine surgery. This year, the forum brought together spine surgeons, researchers, and healthcare professionals from across the globe, who shared groundbreaking research and insights aimed at enhancing patient outcomes.

Dr. Kern Singh, a renowned spine surgeon, was invited to present his extensive research at the conference. His work investigated various aspects of spine surgery, focusing on improving patient outcomes and refining surgical techniques. Dr. Kern Singh and his team presented findings exploring the influence of neck pain severity and preoperative symptom duration on recovery following cervical and lumbar interventions, as well as the impact of gender on postoperative outcomes. We also highlighted advancements in endoscopic spine surgery, including feasibility in ambulatory settings and the comparative effectiveness in different patient populations.

Dr. Kern Singh and his research team were chosen to showcase the following 3 poster presentations and 3 podium presentations:

  1. Effect of Neck Pain Severity on Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System Outcomes Following Cervical Disc Replacement for Herniated Disc
  2. Endoscopic Spine Surgery in the Ambulatory Setting: Perioperative Data, Complications, and Early Clinical Outcomes
  3. Examining the Correlation Among Physical Function, Disability, and Clinical Outcomes in a Cohort Undergoing Cervical Arthroplasty
  4. How Does Baseline Preoperative Neck and Arm Pain Level Influence by Self-Reported Gender Clinical Outcomes After Cervical Disc Replacement?
  5. The Effect of Preoperative Symptom Duration and Spinal Pathology on Mental Health Outcomes Following Lumbar Decompression
  6. Tubular versus Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic Lumbar Decompression for Obese Patients
